Girl, 10, found dead at home ‘suffered knife wounds to her chest’

A 10-year-old girl, Shay Kang, was tragically found dead in her home in Robin Close, Rowley Regis, in the West Midlands, with stab wounds to her chest being determined as the cause of death.

The discovery was made after police were called to the residence on the afternoon of March 4. An inquest into Shay's death commenced, during which the coroner confirmed the cause of death as stabbing injuries.

However, the inquest was swiftly suspended following the arrest of Shay's mother, 33-year-old Jaskirat Kaur, also known as Jasmine Kang, who was charged with her daughter's murder. Kaur has been remanded in custody until April 22.

During the inquest proceedings, Black Country area coroner Joanne Lees stated, "The death of Shay Kang was reported to the coroner by West Midlands Police," detailing the circumstances of the police's discovery of Shay's body at the residence. A post-mortem examination confirmed stab wounds to the chest as the medical cause of death.

Considering the ongoing criminal proceedings, the coroner decided to formally open the inquest but suspended further investigation until the conclusion of the criminal case.

Shay Kang was a pupil at Brickhouse Primary School, which honored her memory by describing her as a "bright, happy, fun-loving child" who was dearly loved by everyone in the school community. The school has initiated support measures for both students and staff in the wake of this devastating loss.
