Gunmen Kill Bus Driver, Kidnap All Passengers ina GUO bus Allegedly Going To Abuja From Lagos, Abandon Little Girl (Video)
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly hijacked a GUO Motors bus allegedly traveling from Lagos State in Southwest Nigeria to Abuja, abducting all passengers onboard.
Tragically, the kidnappers allegedly killed the driver of the bus and left a little girl behind after kidnapping her parents along with other passengers. The incident seems to have happened at or near Akure, Ondo State.
While the exact location of the incident remains unconfirmed, a video shared by Senator Ned Nwoko on social media indicated that the vehicle was coming from Lagos. In the video, a voice mentioned, "This bus is coming from Lagos. We stopped together at Akure and ate."
Senator Nwoko has expressed outrage over the attack, citing it as one of the motivations for the law on self-defense which he is advocating for at the National Assembly. He lamented the perceived inadequacy of security agencies in addressing the kidnapping menace, suggesting that if the driver or any passengers were armed, the kidnappers may have been deterred.
The incident has provoked strong reactions from Nigerians, many of whom echo the sentiment that enabling citizens to carry arms for self-defense could help combat the kidnapping epidemic. They argue that in situations where law enforcement is unavailable, individuals should have the means to protect themselves and others from harm.
However, concerns are raised about the need for responsible gun ownership, stringent regulations, background checks, and adequate training to ensure firearms are used safely and responsibly.
The delay in the response of security personnel to the incident has also sparked criticism, with questions raised about their professionalism and effectiveness in handling such cases.
