Gunmen Storm Event Center in Ogun, kill Babcock University Law Professor

Professor Yinka Olomojobi, a distinguished member of the Faculty of Law at Babcock University in Ilishan, Ogun State, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident at Ajadeh Event Centre on Sagamu Road in the Iperu area around 9:20 p.m. on Friday.


Gunmen, numbering eight, attacked the event center, resulting in the fatal shooting of Professor Olomojobi and the abduction of two other individuals. Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola revealed that the assailants shot the scholar in the chest as he resisted the abduction.


Odutola stated, "A kidnapping and murder incident occurred on the 19th of April, 2024, at about 9:20 p.m. Gunshots were heard at the Ajadeh Event Centre, where eight armed men dressed in black opened fire indiscriminately.


Professor Yinka Olomojobi, a lecturer at Babcock University, was tragically shot in the chest for resisting the abduction, while another individual named Dare "m" from a car stand was also affected. The identity of the third victim remains unknown."


Following the incident, one person has been arrested, including a two-week-old security personnel who was deemed suspicious. Efforts are underway to rescue the kidnapped victims and apprehend the culprits responsible for this heinous act.


This unfortunate event underscores the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, with scholars increasingly becoming targets of kidnapping. Despite the government's efforts to address these security challenges, incidents like this continue to pose serious threats to public safety.
