A domestic dispute over a $5 gas cooker turned deadly when a Harare woman fatally stabbed her husband during a heated argument, authorities confirmed.

According to Harare provincial deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, Liberty Takaza returned home intoxicated late Thursday night after purchasing the gas cooker top for $5, a decision his wife, Prisca, strongly opposed. The disagreement escalated while they were in bed, with Liberty accusing his wife of various issues, leading to a physical confrontation.

During the struggle, Liberty began choking Prisca, and the two fell near a dish filled with kitchen utensils. In a desperate attempt to defend herself, Prisca grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Liberty twice—once in the right side of his chest and once in his right shoulder.

Liberty sustained severe injuries and bled profusely. He was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Prisca was subsequently arrested and is now facing murder charges.

Authorities revealed that the couple had a history of domestic disputes, though none had previously escalated to such violence.

“The accused person and the deceased were husband and wife. The argument began over the cost of a gas cooker top and escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in the tragic death of Liberty Takaza,” Assistant Inspector Mapisa confirmed.
