Hard-up bloke eats lizards for three-hour sex boost but doctor warns of side effects

Sommai Nuksom, a 59-year-old man from Chanthaburi province, has made headlines for consuming live lizards as an alternative to prescription pills, claiming it enhances his sexual performance more effectively than Viagra.

While visiting relatives in Trat on March 21, Sommai startled onlookers by plucking a lizard from a wall and ingesting it whole, showcasing his unconventional snack choice.

A stomach-churning video captures Sommai pouring soda water over the reptile before biting into it head-first, crunching loudly as he consumes the animal and swallows it.

According to Sommai, "Lizards are clean animals since they feed solely on insects. However, before consumption, lizards must be thoroughly washed with soda water, not tap water."

Drawing from familial traditions, he expressed belief in the sexual enhancement properties of lizards, noting their effects manifesting approximately three hours after consumption. Sommai clarified that his motive for eating lizards isn't for entertainment but rather due to his confidence in their energizing effects.

"I've experimented with tablets to boost arousal, but consuming geckos yields more potent results. It's natural and safer, unlike tablets that often cause headaches," Sommai remarked.

While certain species of lizards like iguanas, geckos, monitor lizards, and skinks are delicacies in various cultures and safe when cooked properly, consuming them raw is discouraged due to the potential transmission of disease-causing bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, Staphylococcus, and Campylobacter.

Dr. Deborah Lee from doctorfox.co.uk highlights the prevalence of lizard consumption globally, emphasizing that green and black iguanas, geckos, anoles, and skinks are dietary staples in regions like Asia, Africa, Australia, North, and Central America.

Dr. Lee notes, "Iguana meat boasts a protein content comparable to chicken, which is crucial for fertility in men." Additionally, lizard meat's low calorie, fat, and cholesterol content is beneficial for sexual performance, as excessive consumption can lead to obesity and atherosclerosis, contributing to erectile dysfunction.

She further explains that lizard meat is rich in B vitamins essential for reproductive hormones and zinc vital for healthy sperm. However, Dr. Lee strongly advises against consuming raw lizards due to the associated risks of bacterial infections, flatworms, parasitic diseases, and worm diseases.

Instead, Dr. Lee recommends a balanced, nutritious diet like the Mediterranean Diet or incorporating aphrodisiacs such as oysters, which are high in zinc. She advocates for a healthy lifestyle involving smoking cessation, reduced alcohol intake, weight management, and regular physical exercise, which are more effective in improving erections compared to consuming lizards.

Dr. Lee concludes, "It's disheartening to resort to eating lizards when holistic approaches to health and fitness, along with medical interventions like Viagra, can address erectile issues more effectively."
