Heartbreak as Arizona father finds three-year-old twin girls drowned in backyard swimming pool
Police have identified the twin toddlers who tragically passed away after their father discovered them lifeless in their backyard pool.
The three-year-old girls, Valentina and Penelope Ruiz, were pronounced dead at a hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, officials confirmed on Thursday.
"Preliminary information indicates that this incident aligns with an accidental drowning," stated Phoenix Police in a Friday announcement. "There is currently no evidence suggesting any suspicious activity."
Phoenix Fire Captain Rob McDade mentioned that the father of the twins made the 911 call. "You can imagine the distressing nature of that situation and how emotionally challenging it must have been. It's an incredibly heartbreaking scene," he expressed.
McDade noted that the toddlers were submerged underwater for an "uncertain period" before emergency services arrived around 3:30 pm on Thursday.
Emergency teams swiftly reached the residence on 63rd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, where family members were performing CPR on the twins.
Despite immediate efforts, the girls were unable to be revived and were declared deceased upon arrival at a nearby hospital.
Aerial footage of the three-bedroom house revealed a kidney-shaped pool that lacked fencing around it.
