Heathrow Airport Closes Due to Major Power Outage Following Nearby Fire

Writer: Victor NwokoVictor Nwoko

Heathrow Airport has announced a full-day closure after experiencing a significant power outage caused by a nearby fire. Passengers have been advised not to travel to the airport under any circumstances.

The fire broke out just before midnight at an electrical substation in Hayes, approximately 1.5 miles from the airport. London Fire Brigade responded to the incident, which led to power outages across the area, including at Heathrow.

Images from the scene showed large flames and thick black smoke billowing from the substation. Around 150 people were evacuated, and a 200-metre cordon was established for safety.

As a result of the power failure, Heathrow has suspended operations for the entire day. A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that the closure, in effect until 23:59 tonight, was necessary to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.

Travelers have been urged to stay away from the airport until further notice.
