Horror as nine kids killed on way to school graduation trip after bus brakes failed

At least 11 individuals, including nine children, lost their lives in a tragic incident when a bus transporting students to a school graduation trip crashed due to brake failure.

Indonesian officials reported that the bus collided with cars and motorcycles after its brakes apparently malfunctioned in West Java province, leading to the devastating accident.

The bus, carrying 61 students and teachers from a high school in Depok outside Jakarta, was returning from Bandung late Saturday (May 11) when the incident occurred.

According to Jules Abraham Abast, a spokesperson for the West Java police, the bus lost control on a downhill stretch, crossed lanes, struck multiple vehicles, and ultimately collided with an electricity pole. The impact resulted in nine fatalities at the scene, with two more succumbing to their injuries in the hospital, including a teacher and a local motorist.

Abast further stated that 53 individuals were hospitalized with injuries, some of whom are in critical condition.

"While we are still investigating the accident's cause, initial findings indicate a malfunction in the bus's braking system," Abast commented.

Indonesia faces frequent road accidents due to challenges like poor infrastructure and challenging driving conditions.
