A devastating head-on bus crash in Bolivia has claimed the lives of at least 37 people and left more than 30 injured. The tragic collision occurred early Saturday morning, roughly three miles from the southwestern city of Uyuni, on the main road to Colchani.

Terrifying images from the scene show a bus completely destroyed, with its windows shattered and body ripped apart. Luggage lay scattered on the roadside as shocked bystanders gathered around the wreckage. One of the buses was en route to the famed Oruro Carnival, but the celebrations were cut short by the horrific accident.

Police rushed to the scene, with local commander Wilson Flores confirming the shocking toll. "We have lost approximately 37 people who are believed to have died and around thirty wounded, whose condition we are still verifying in different hospitals," he stated.

Both bus drivers survived but suffered injuries—one remains in intensive care while the other is in stable condition. Preliminary investigations suggest one of the buses veered into the opposite lane, causing the crash. Authorities have tested both drivers for alcohol and are awaiting results.

This disaster is the latest in a series of deadly bus accidents in Bolivia. In February, another crash claimed at least 30 lives when a speeding bus lost control and plunged into a ravine, injuring 15 others. That incident occurred on a narrow, two-way road between Potosí and Oruro—close to the site of Saturday’s fatal collision.
