"I didn't have a choice" South African woman who falsely accused Nigerian man of rape confesses it was a lie (video)
A South African woman named Happy Simelane has come forward on a podcast to reveal that she falsely accused a man of rape years ago. She recounted that at 19, she became pregnant by a man three years older than her, with whom she had been dating, and the intercourse was consensual. However, due to societal pressure regarding relationships between South African women and Nigerian men, she couldn't disclose the truth when her family wrongfully accused him of rape.
Happy disclosed that the man, who was new to the country at the time and had spent less than a year in South Africa, was arrested and detained for approximately seven to eight months. She expressed remorse, mentioning that his mother had to sell her business to afford legal representation for her son. Eventually, Happy succumbed to pressure from her family and falsely claimed the man in jail was her boyfriend and the father of her child. After a DNA test proved the man's paternity, he was released.
Following his release, the man left South Africa for Europe due to the trauma caused by the false accusation. Happy moved on, got married, and falsely informed her husband and daughter that her child's biological father had passed away. Despite ignoring the Nigerian man's attempts to reach out for years, she finally responded after her husband's death in a car accident involving his extramarital affair.
Happy expressed gratitude for the Nigerian man's patience and respect during her grieving period and throughout her marriage. She also admitted during the podcast that she was the one who initiated their intimate relationship, contradicting her earlier accusation of rape. The revelation was met with applause from the other participants.
In response to criticism, Happy addressed the backlash on Instagram, affirming her man's integrity and her reconciliation with his forgiving family. Reports indicate that Happy is now engaged to the Nigerian man, with footage online showing a warm reception from his family during her visit to Owerri, Nigeria.
