I have been banned from church because of my 800 tattoos - it was so wrong...I couldn't believe it
Melissa Sloan, 46, from Powys, Wales, shared her experience of being banned from her local church due to her extensive tattoos.
She criticized the priests for their decision to kick her out of a service, noting that this wasn't the first time she felt excluded. Last year, Melissa mentioned that she's never invited to Halloween parties because her appearance ironically scares guests away.
The final straw came when she was asked to leave the church while singing "too loud." Melissa, who has a crucifix tattooed on her nose, found solace in religion when her partner Luke fell ill, and she prayed for his recovery.
Despite actively participating in church activities, including singing and prayers, Melissa was abruptly removed from the congregation mid-verse. Feeling ostracized and hurt, she expressed disappointment in the church's supposed lack of inclusivity, especially given its teachings of love and acceptance.
Melissa's faith in the institution has dwindled, as she feels judged for her tattoos and believes some churchgoers may harbor negativity toward her. Despite this, she maintains a strong respect for Jesus, whom she believes wouldn't judge her based on appearance.
This incident adds to Melissa's challenges, including struggles finding a driving instructor willing to give her lessons due to her startling appearance. Additionally, her extensive tattoos have contributed to her unemployment for the past 20 years.
