Indian YouTuber Elvish Yadav has been arrested for allegedly supplying snake venom as a recreational drug at raves, resulting in his detention under the Wildlife Act, as reported by Indian broadcaster NDTV.
Yadav, known for his 15 million YouTube subscribers, was apprehended following a raid on a party in November, where suspicions arose regarding the use of snake venom as a drug among attendees.
The police conducted an investigation and interrogated five individuals regarding snake smuggling, leading to Yadav being identified as the purported organizer of these events and the source of snake venom.
Despite denying all charges, Yadav, also a winner of the Indian version of Big Brother, Bigg Boss OTT, expressed willingness to cooperate fully with law enforcement, according to NDTV. During the raid, authorities seized nine snakes, including cobras, and 20ml of snake venom from the party.
Yadav has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody, marking a development four months after initial questioning, as reported by the Times of India.
The case emerged following a complaint by animal welfare organization People For Animals, which alleged Yadav and others of filming videos with snakes and snake venom, according to India Today.
A study highlighted that snake venom's use is prevalent at rave parties, citing 13 instances of snake venom being employed as a recreational substance in India.
