Iran Embassy airstrike: Israeli Airstrike Kills Iranian Commander in Damascus (video)

Mohammad Reza Zahedi was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Syria

In a recent development, local sources report that an Israeli airstrike near the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, Syria, has led to the death of a high-ranking Iranian official.

Mohammad Reza Zahedi, the leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was among those killed during the strike, which also claimed the lives of other Iranian diplomats in the Syrian capital.

The IRGC-affiliated Fars News Agency reported the incident, stating: “Sardar Mohammadreza Zahedi, a prominent commander of the resistance, was martyred in tonight’s Zionist regime assault on the Iranian embassy’s consular section in Damascus.”

Zahedi, a senior military figure and ex-chief of Tehran’s Air and Ground Forces, had recently emerged as a key commander of the Quds Force, focusing on military intelligence operations.

The embassy vicinity was shaken by an explosion, with social media images showing the aftermath, including debris and flames.

Visuals on social media depicted a large column of smoke rising from the blast site into Damascus’s Mezzeh district.

The Syrian Ministry of Defence issued a statement in response to the incident: “Tonight, the Israeli foe initiated an aerial attack from the occupied Syrian Golan’s direction, aiming at the Iranian consulate in Damascus. Our air defenses engaged the missiles, downing several. The assault resulted in the complete destruction of the building and the martyrdom and injuries of all occupants.”

Efforts are currently underway to retrieve the deceased, provide medical care to the injured, and clear the rubble.

The attack is believed to have occurred during a meeting between the top IRGC commander and high-level regional representatives.

According to regional accounts, the airstrike, which took place on Monday afternoon, resulted in six fatalities.

An Israeli official declined to comment on these allegations, adhering to the policy of not discussing foreign media reports.

Syrian state television confirmed the strike on an Iranian consulate building, while Tehran’s student news agency reported that both the consulate and the ambassador’s residence were targeted.

Since the onset of the conflict with Hamas last October, Israeli forces, under Benjamin Netanyahu’s command, have consistently targeted foreign entities abroad.

Israel has intensified its actions against Hamas affiliates, including Hezbollah, in Lebanon and Syria.

Recently, Israel was implicated in another airstrike in northwest Syria last Friday, allegedly causing at least 42 casualties.

The Syrian Defence Ministry asserted that Israeli aircraft targeted multiple locations around Aleppo, with reports from a UK-based watchdog indicating the deaths of several Hezbollah militants and Syrian soldiers following the hit on a Hezbollah arms depot.
