Israeli military recovers body of a hostage from Gaza in overnight operation
The Israeli military has confirmed the recovery of Elad Katzir’s body following an operation in Khan Younis, in the Gaza Strip. Elad Katzir, who was held captive by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, died during his captivity after being taken hostage on October 7. His family has been notified, and his sister expressed both relief and criticism regarding the circumstances of his captivity and the efforts to secure his release.
Elad Katzir was 47 years old when he was taken from Kibbutz Nir Oz, a location significantly affected by the attacks led by Hamas. He appeared in a video in December pleading for his release. His mother was also taken hostage but was released during a truce and exchange in November. Unfortunately, his father was killed during the attack on their community.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have stated their commitment to continuing the search and recovery of the remaining hostages in Gaza. This development coincides with Hamas’s announcement of sending a delegation to Cairo for talks on a hostage deal, amidst calls from President Joe Biden for an immediate cease-fire.
