Jay-Z sues lawyer Tony Buzbee and woman who accused him of rape

Jay-Z has filed a lawsuit against attorney Tony Buzbee, his colleague David Fortney, and their client, identified as Jane Doe, over a previously withdrawn lawsuit that accused him and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting her when she was 13.
The music mogul, born Shawn Carter, submitted the lawsuit on March 3, claiming the allegations were false and defamatory, designed solely for financial extortion. The case was filed in Alabama, where the woman reportedly resides. In his filing, Jay-Z accused both Jane Doe and her legal team of being “soullessly motivated by greed, in abject disregard of the truth and the most fundamental precepts of human decency.”
Jane Doe initially filed her lawsuit against Combs in New York in October 2023, later adding Jay-Z as a defendant in December. However, she withdrew her case in February without prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.
Jay-Z asserts that the claims were baseless and that Jane Doe had privately admitted to his representatives that he never assaulted her. He further alleged that Buzbee pressured her to maintain a false narrative for financial gain, using a “menacing ‘private’ ‘demand letter’” to extort him.

In response, Buzbee dismissed Jay-Z’s lawsuit as another intimidation tactic, stating, “This is just another attempt to intimidate and bully this poor woman… We won’t be bullied or intimidated by frivolous cases.”
Jay-Z celebrated the dismissal of the original lawsuit, calling it “a victory” and condemning what he described as a flawed legal system that allows baseless accusations to be filed without repercussions. “The court must protect victims, OF COURSE, while with the same ethical responsibility, the courts must protect the innocent from being accused without a shred of evidence,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Sean “Diddy” Combs remains in custody in New York, facing federal sex trafficking charges.
