Joe Manchin won't Run for President

U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, a centrist Democrat from West Virginia, made it clear on Friday that he won't be throwing his hat into the presidential ring after months of contemplating a campaign that could have complicated the 2024 presidential race. During a speech at West Virginia University titled "The Future of American Politics," Manchin announced his decision.

Despite not seeking reelection this year, Manchin had stirred speculation for months about a potential independent or third-party presidential bid. He engaged in discussions with No Labels, a centrist group exploring the possibility of fielding a centrist ticket.

Democrats had concerns that Manchin's presidential aspirations might draw support from moderate voters, potentially affecting the anticipated rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
