Judge rules Prince Harry was not unfairly stripped of UK security detail after he moved to the US
Justice Peter Lane of the High Court in London determined that Prince Harry was not improperly deprived of his publicly funded security detail during visits to Britain following his departure as a working member of the royal family and relocation to the U.S.
According to Justice Lane, the decision to offer security to Harry on a case-by-case basis was found to be lawful, rational, and justified.
Prince Harry had expressed concerns about the safety of himself and his family during their visits to the U.K., citing hostility on social media and persistent attention from the news media.
His legal representative argued that the government body responsible for assessing Harry's security requirements had acted irrationally and failed to adhere to its own protocols, which should have included a risk assessment for his safety.
A government representative countered, asserting that Prince Harry had been treated fairly and that security measures were still provided for some of his visits. They pointed to an incident in June 2021 when Harry was pursued by photographers after attending an event with seriously ill children at Kew Gardens in west London, during which he was accompanied by a security detail.
