Kendrick Lamar leads the 2025 American Music Awards with an impressive 10 nominations, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for GNX, and Song of the Year for his hit “Not Like Us.” His wide-ranging recognition this year solidifies his place as a top contender across multiple genres, including hip-hop and pop, as fans await the highly anticipated awards night airing live from Las Vegas on May 26.

Joining Lamar in the Artist of the Year category are Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Morgan Wallen, Post Malone, Sabrina Carpenter, SZA, Taylor Swift, and Zach Bryan. Post Malone follows Lamar with eight nominations and also celebrates his first-time inclusion in country categories, a milestone he shares with Beyoncé. Billie Eilish and breakout stars Chappell Roan and Shaboozey each earned seven nominations, highlighting the diversity and talent of this year’s musical landscape.

Chappell Roan made a significant mark as the only artist nominated in all three newly added categories: Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Social Song of the Year. Her hit “Good Luck, Babe!” and debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess earned her a prominent place among industry veterans. Taylor Swift, who currently holds the record for most AMA wins with 40 and most Artist of the Year wins with seven, is nominated six times this year and could further cement her legacy.

This year also welcomes a host of first-time nominees including Benson Boone, Doechii, Gracie Abrams, Jelly Roll, Lola Young, The Marías, ROSÉ, Teddy Swims, Tommy Richman, Tyla, and major category contenders Carpenter and Bryan. The nominations reflect a rich blend of established superstars and rising voices across pop, country, hip-hop, R&B, Latin, rock, electronic, Afrobeats, and K-pop.

In addition to the competitive categories, fan engagement plays a major role, with voting open now through official AMA platforms. Jennifer Lopez will host and perform during the ceremony, with more artists to be announced for the star-studded evening.

Among the most competitive categories are Album of the Year, featuring projects from Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Chappell Roan, and others. Song of the Year contenders include “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar, “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish, and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey. Kendrick Lamar is also nominated for Collaboration of the Year alongside SZA for “Luther,” and appears in both Favorite Hip-Hop Album and Favorite Hip-Hop Song categories.

The 2025 AMAs showcase the evolution of the music industry and the increasing genre fluidity among today’s top artists. The blend of new talent with chart-dominating legends highlights a transformative year in global music culture.
