Killer Mike is taken away in handcuffs after winning 3 Grammys (Video)
Rapper Killer Mike made headlines on Sunday evening as he was handcuffed and escorted by police out of the Grammy Awards, despite having secured three Grammy wins earlier during the pre-televised portion of the ceremony.
During the pre-show ceremony, held before the main telecast commenced at 5:00 p.m. PT, Killer Mike emerged victorious in all three categories for which he was nominated. His sixth studio album, "Michael," released in June 2023, earned him the Grammy for Best Rap Album, while his track "Scientists & Engineers" featuring André 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane secured wins for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.
Gardner's video shared on X/Twitter captured the perplexing scene of Killer Mike being led away in handcuffs around 4:22 p.m. PT, adding an unexpected twist to his celebratory night.
In the fiercely competitive Best Rap Performance category, "Scientists & Engineers" triumphed over notable contenders such as Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar's "The Hillbillies," Black Thought's "Love Letter," Coi Leray's "Players," and Drake and 21 Savage's "Rich Flex." The Best Rap Song category saw the same track outshine competitors like Doja Cat's "Attention," Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, and Aqua's "Barbie World," and Lil Uzi Vert's "Just Wanna Rock."
The success continued for Killer Mike in the Best Rap Album category, where "Michael" emerged victorious over strong contenders like Drake and 21 Savage's "Her Loss," Metro Boomin's "Heroes & Villains," Nas' "King's Disease III," and Travis Scott's "Utopia."
Notably, these Grammy wins mark Killer Mike's return to the winner's circle since 2003 when he was first honored for his feature on OutKast's "The Whole World" in the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group category. He was also nominated in 2018 for Best Rap Song for "Chase Me," a collaboration with his hip-hop duo partner, rapper and producer El-P, under the moniker Run the Jewels.
