Kristoffer Olsson: Former Arsenal footballer suffers 'acute brain illness' after collapsing at home
A former Arsenal footballer and Swedish international is currently hospitalized due to an acute brain illness after collapsing at his home, as reported by his Danish club.
Kristoffer Olsson, who spent three years at Arsenal, is currently on a ventilator at Aarhus University Hospital, according to FC Midtjylland.
The 28-year-old midfielder lost consciousness last Tuesday and was subsequently transferred to the hospital, where he is receiving care with the support of his immediate family and club staff.
FC Midtjylland stated that Denmark's leading medical experts are involved in diagnosing the condition and initiating treatment.
The club addressed the speculations surrounding Olsson's absence from the first team, stating that he is suffering from "an apparently acute disease related to the brain, which is not caused by self-harm or external factors."
FC Midtjylland expressed deep concern for Olsson's sudden illness, extending their thoughts and full support to him and his family.
Arsenal also expressed their support for Olsson's recovery in a social media post.
Kim Kallstrom, head of football at the Swedish Football Association, expressed sadness at the news and extended sympathies to Olsson and his family.
Olsson, who has represented Sweden 47 times, most recently played against Estonia in November. He joined Midtjylland in 2022 for a second spell, having previously played for Anderlecht, Krasnodar, and AIK.
Described as a "technically gifted midfielder" by Arsenal, Olsson left the club in 2014. He was known for his composure in possession and proficiency in front of goal, making notable contributions during his time with the team.
