Lagos police arrest driver for stuffing children in car
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad attached to the Lagos State Police Command arrested a driver for cramming 15 children into a Volkswagen Passat car. The driver, hired to take the children to a beach, locked four of them in the car trunk while the remaining 11 were squeezed together inside.
The incident was reported by concerned citizens on the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge around 8 p.m. on Sunday, as detailed in a statement from the State Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja.
Upon intervention, the police discovered the cramped conditions and learned that one child had collapsed earlier due to similar transportation conditions but had recovered after medical attention.
The command has since released the children to their parents while preparing to charge the suspects to court. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, praised residents for promptly reporting suspicious activities.
In another operation, the state police command rescued three toddlers found locked in a room at Agodo-Egbe in the Ikotun area. The children, aged between two and four years, were reportedly locked up by their grandmother, Fatimo Ganiyu. Community members alerted the police, leading to the children's rescue.
