Las Vegas Woman Arrested for Stealing Casket with Body Inside, Claims She "Blackout" from Drinking Six Beers
A Las Vegas woman, Patricia Sierra, 47, has been arrested after allegedly stealing a casket with a body still inside from a funeral home. Sierra faces charges of burglary, grand larceny, and disturbing human remains following the bizarre incident on August 27, which was captured on surveillance footage.
The theft occurred at the Affordable Cremation & Burial Service funeral home, where police were called around 3 a.m. after a body was found lying face down near the front walkway of the property, with the casket abandoned on a nearby sidewalk. Officers discovered the deceased with its feet covered in plastic bags, just days after a viewing had been held.
According to an arrest report, surveillance footage showed Sierra breaking into the funeral home by smashing a window and unlocking the door. She was seen dragging the casket out the front door, making multiple trips before leaving the premises.
Sierra was apprehended two days later at a convenience store after being recognized by someone. When questioned, she told police she didn't remember the theft, claiming she had "blacked out" after drinking six beers. Sierra expressed regret, blaming her substance abuse problem for the incident.
A judge set her bail at $11,000, and as of Wednesday, Sierra remained in custody. The funeral home has confirmed an ongoing investigation but declined to comment further.
