Lifestyle blogger jailed eight years for starving his newborn son to death

A lifestyle blogger and father has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the death of his newborn son, whom he insisted should subsist solely on sunlight instead of proper nourishment.

Maxim Lyutyi, 44, along with his partner Oxana Mironova, 34, neglected to adequately feed their baby, Cosmos, leading to his death from 'pneumonia and emaciation' when he was under a month old. Lyutyi will serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.

Reports revealed that Lyutyi would take the baby away from Mironova for extended periods, subjecting him to cold water baths to "harden" him. This harsh treatment contributed to the infant's exhaustion and breathing difficulties, yet medical attention was not sought.

Lyutyi admitted to causing 'intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm' by insisting that the baby primarily rely on sunlight for nourishment. Initially, he attempted to shift blame onto Mironova, who received a non-custodial sentence of two years of 'correctional labor.'

During court proceedings, Lyutyi acknowledged his negligence and expressed regret, stating that he would have sought medical help if he had known about the child's premature birth and his partner's health issues. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing health before conception and providing adequate care for newborns.

Despite his claims of not deliberately harming his child, Lyutyi's extreme beliefs in prana-eating (a diet eschewing food and water for sunlight) led to the tragic outcome. He was also fined £860 as part of his sentence.

Relatives of Mironova described Lyutyi as running a 'sect,' coercing Mironova into following his radical beliefs and preventing her from breastfeeding the baby. Despite her attempts to secretly provide nourishment, the lack of proper care and support from Lyutyi resulted in the child's severe malnourishment and untimely death.

The heartbreaking case underscores the dangers of extremist beliefs and neglect in child care, prompting calls for greater awareness of responsible parenting and adherence to medical guidelines for infant nutrition and well-being.
