Los Angeles woman fatally stabbed partner, threw infant to death, then killed self

A tragic incident unfolded in Los Angeles on Monday morning, where a woman fatally stabbed her partner and potentially threw her two children from a moving SUV on the freeway before ending her own life by crashing into a tree, as per authorities.

During the altercation that began around 3:40 a.m., the children’s mother, 34-year-old Danielle Johnson, had an argument with Jaelen Chaney, her cohabitant, and reportedly used a knife on him, according to police.

Subsequently, Johnson took her two children in a Porsche SUV. At approximately 4:30 a.m., the vehicle was observed on Interstate 405, during which "the two children were expelled from the vehicle while it was moving," stated the police.

There are indications that the children either fell from or were forcibly ejected from the moving vehicle, as per the California Highway Patrol. Tragically, the 8-month-old infant did not survive, and her 9-year-old sister sustained moderate injuries and was hospitalized.

Shortly after, around 5 a.m., Johnson collided with a tree in Redondo Beach at speeds exceeding 100 mph, resulting in her demise.

Further investigation revealed that Chaney, 29, was found deceased at their shared residence in Woodland Hills. The incidents were linked and determined to be a double murder and a suicide by authorities.

Police Lieutenant Guy Golan expressed bewilderment at the escalation of violence, stating, “We really don’t know why this incident escalated to such violence.”

The California Highway Patrol reported a medical emergency regarding the injured children on the freeway at 4:29 a.m. Emergency responders found the infant with major injuries, and despite efforts, she was pronounced dead at 4:44 a.m. by the Culver City Fire Department.

Woodland Hills, situated in the San Fernando Valley, is about 30 miles north of Redondo Beach, connected by the 405 Freeway, a vital link between the western valley and the Los Angeles basin.

The surviving child is now under the care of Child Protective Services.
