Louisiana man sentenced to prison, physical castration for raping teen

Glenn Sullivan, Sr.

A Louisiana man has been sentenced to decades in prison and physical castration after admitting guilt to raping a teenager, as stated in a news release from the region's district attorney.

Glenn Sullivan Sr., 54, pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree rape on April 17. Authorities initiated an investigation into Sullivan in July 2022 after a young woman informed the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office that Sullivan had sexually assaulted her multiple times when she was 14. These assaults resulted in pregnancy, and a DNA test confirmed Sullivan as the father of the child, the district attorney's office reported. Sullivan had also manipulated and threatened the victim and her family to deter her from coming forward.

Judicial District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux remarked in the news release, "So many of these types of cases go unreported because of fear. The strength it must have taken for this young woman to tell the truth in the face of threats and adversity is truly incredible."

According to a 2008 Louisiana law, men convicted of specific rape offenses may receive a sentence of chemical castration or opt for physical castration. Perrilloux noted that Sullivan's guilty plea entails physical castration, a procedure that will be conducted by the state's Department of Corrections as stipulated by the law. However, physical castration cannot occur more than a week before a person's prison sentence concludes.

This indicates that Sullivan will undergo castration a week prior to the end of his 50-year prison term, at which point he would be over 100 years old.

Assistant District Attorney Brad J. Cascio, who handled the case, expressed, "Sex crimes against juveniles are the most malicious crimes we prosecute. I intend on using every tool the legislature is willing to give us, including physical castration, to seek justice for the children in our community."
