Magnitude 4.7 earthquake rocks NYC, tri-state area




A rare earthquake jolted the New York area on Friday morning, shaking parts of the Big Apple, Connecticut, and New Jersey.


The preliminary 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Lebanon, New Jersey, at approximately 10:23 a.m., as reported by the US Geological Survey.


Tremors were felt as far north as New Paltz, New York, and as west as Delaware.


The extent of the damage caused by the quake was not immediately clear.


Governor Kathy Hochul stated, "My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day."


Mayor Eric Adams mentioned that he had been briefed following the tremors, noting that no major impacts had been reported in the city.
