Man Charged with Grisly Murder and Dismemberment of Pregnant Sister in Lakeville, Minnesota - Because she was 'no Longer Innocent'
Jack Joseph Ball, 23, Faces Two Counts of Second-Degree Murder in the Death of Sister and Her Unborn Child
Jack Joseph Ball, 23, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder following the gruesome death of his sister, Bethany Israel, 30, who was between 17 and 18 weeks pregnant. Authorities discovered Israel's dismembered body at Ball's home in Lakeville, Minnesota, last Thursday after family members raised concerns about her whereabouts.
The tragic sequence of events began when Israel did not return home after having dinner with her brother. Family members drove to Ball's residence, where they observed him leaving the scene hastily. Inside the house, they discovered a significant amount of blood and immediately called 911.
Responding officers found dismembered body parts believed to belong to Israel, along with blood-stained tools including a saw, hatchet, and large knives. Ball's journals, which were also recovered, revealed his anger over his sister's pregnancy, describing her as 'no longer innocent.'
As the police searched for Ball, a nearby Rosemount resident reported to 911 that their ring camera captured a man leaving what appeared to be a body part on their front porch. Officers located Ball in the backyard of a neighboring property, covered in blood and with a self-inflicted knife wound across his throat. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital.
Further investigation confirmed the cause of Israel's death as 'complex homicidal violence,' according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office. Neighbor Cindy Bond recounted hearing a female scream followed by shouting and a car speeding away.
Ball appeared in Dakota County District Court via video conference from the hospital on Tuesday. Judge Bryce Ehrman set his bail at $2 million without conditions and $1 million with conditions. Once cleared from the hospital, Ball will be transferred to the Dakota County Jail. Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena emphasized the disturbing nature of the case and vowed to seek justice for the victims.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Israel's husband, Jack, and her family. The fundraiser highlights Bethany's cherished roles as a wife, daughter, sister, expectant mother, and beloved member of the volleyball community, noting her radiant spirit and the profound impact she had on those who knew her.
Ball is scheduled to appear in court again on June 10.
