Man found dead in ‘targeted incident’ after burglary

Two suspects have been apprehended after a man’s body was discovered following reports of a break-in.

Police said officers believe the death was part of a ‘targeted incident’ which led to scene guards being put in place at two houses in Eccles Road

Detectives stated that the death at a residence on Eccles Road in Whaley Bridge was linked to a ‘targeted incident.’


One suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after authorities were notified of a burglary at 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday.


They discovered a man who had suffered fatal injuries.


The second suspect, arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary, was discovered with serious injuries nearby on the same road and transported to the hospital.


A statement from Derbyshire Police read, ‘Two scenes are still cordoned off at two residences on Eccles Road and will remain so for some time.’ Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Dave Kirby stated, ‘This is understandably a worrying incident for this small rural community.


‘However, although we are in the early stages of the investigation, we believe this to be a targeted incident.

‘Residents will notice an increased police presence as inquiries continue, and we will provide further updates as soon as possible.
