Man kills wife, three of his four sons, aged 18, 14 and 12 then himself in horrific murder-suicide at their Oklahoma home as orphaned son, 10, survives unharmed

Police suspect that a man fatally shot his "all-American" family before taking his own life in a small community just outside of Oklahoma City.

The discovery of the five deceased individuals was made on Monday morning after a 10-year-old son, the sole survivor, contacted the authorities to report the shootings, according to Sgt. Gary Knight.

Jonathon Candy, 42, is believed to have killed his 39-year-old wife, Lindsay Candy, and their sons, 18-year-old Dylan Candy, 14-year-old Ethan Candy, and 12-year-old Lucas Candy, Knight confirmed. After the murders, Candy turned the gun on himself.

"It remains a mystery as to what motivated Mr. Candy to commit these acts of violence against his wife and three of his children. We don't have any information on why the fourth child was spared or what drove him to carry out these killings," Knight stated.

The 10-year-old survivor has been placed in the care of relatives. Police had no prior interactions with the family and had not been called to their residence before this incident, Knight added.

During his initial media briefing, Knight emphasized that the family members did not die due to carbon monoxide poisoning or any similar situation. "These are five individuals who were killed," he clarified.

Ethan and Lucas were enrolled as students in the Mustang Public School system, while Dylan graduated from a local high school in 2023. Superintendent Charles Bradley expressed deep sorrow in a statement to parents, describing the tragedy as incomprehensible.

Neighbors, like Brian Graham, expressed shock and grief over the incident, remembering the Candy family as friendly and close. They were active members of the community, often spending time together with friends.

Jonathon Candy worked as a video engineer at Cox Media, according to his LinkedIn profile.

A family friend expressed heartbreak over the devastating loss on social media, echoing sentiments shared by many who knew the family. The tragedy has deeply impacted the community, leaving them mourning the loss of what appeared to be a typical American family.

The Candy family resided in Czech Hall Estates, a subdivision in Yukon, Oklahoma, where homes are valued between $211,000 and $365,000.
