Man Murders Friend With a Machete After Hosting Him for a Meal in Abuja

A man identified as Iliayasu Mohammed has allegedly killed his friend, Safillahi Muhammad, after inviting him for a meal at his residence in Dantata Village, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to the FCT Police Command, Mohammed lured Muhammad to his home, served him food, and then attacked him with a cutlass, inflicting multiple wounds on his head and body.

Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, revealing that officers responded to a distress call at about 1:30 PM on February 13, 2025.

“Upon arrival, police found the victim unconscious in a pool of blood. He was immediately transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead,” Adeh stated.

Investigations revealed that Mohammed, an ex-convict, has ties to a notorious syndicate that specializes in attacking and robbing motorcyclists. During interrogation, he confessed to the killing and provided details about the gang’s operations, implicating a fugitive named Hassan as the group’s leader.

“The police are actively pursuing other members of the gang who have fled. Mohammed will be charged in court after the investigation is completed,” Adeh added.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, assuring the public of the command’s commitment to safety and security.
