Man sets himself on fire outside US Israeli embassy and sustains life-threatening injuries

A man was reported to have set himself on fire outside the Israeli embassy in northwest Washington, DC, according to officials from the District’s fire department.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon, officials stated. The man was promptly extinguished by members of the uniformed division of the US Secret Service, as confirmed by a public information officer.

In response to the situation, authorities also called in the Metropolitan Police Department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) due to concerns about a “suspicious vehicle that may be connected to the individual,” as per a statement from the department.

Following the incident, the man was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
