Martial Arts Master Accused of Murdering an Entire Family
Kwang Kyung Yoo, 49, a Taekwondo master and owner of Lion’s Taekwondo in North Parramatta, also known as ‘Master Lion,’ has been arrested in connection with the alleged triple murder of Min Cho, 41, her husband Steven, 39, and his 7-year-old son.
Authorities claim that Yoo strangled the woman and child to death at his Taekwondo studio on Monday night before driving his white BMW X5 to his home in Baulkham Hills. Allegedly, he fatally stabbed her husband during an altercation at the residence.
Yoo, covered in blood, then purportedly drove to Sydney’s Westmead Hospital, where he underwent surgery for knife wounds to his chest, arms, and stomach before being taken into custody by police.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the tragedy, canvassing the neighborhood around Yoo’s home in North Kellyville, Sydney’s northwest.
Prior to the incident, Kwang Kyung Yoo lived a seemingly normal suburban life with his wife and two children. A neighbor described them as a “normal family,” consisting of Yoo, his wife, and their children, aged 12 and 8.
According to the neighbor, Yoo appeared calm and reserved, often seen attending to chores like mowing the lawn. Despite outward appearances, Yoo had been facing financial challenges with his Taekwondo studio, which he had discussed with the neighbor over the past year. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the business's struggles.
Yoo had recently taken on a lecturing position at Macquarie University seven months ago, while his wife managed the household and their children attended a private school. Despite his day job, Yoo continued to operate his Taekwondo studio in the evenings.
Police inquiries have extended to the neighborhood, with officers requesting CCTV footage from residents. Witnesses noted increased activity at Yoo’s residence, including visits from relatives and extended police presence, following the incident.
