Maryland Hairstylist Charged with Assault After Dragging Teenage Client Across the Salon (Video)

A Maryland hairstylist has been charged with second-degree assault after a video surfaced showing her dragging a teenage client across a salon floor. The incident occurred on March 2 when 18-year-old Jayla Cunningham allegedly confronted the client for attempting to leave without paying for a hair appointment.
Footage of the altercation shows Cunningham, who goes by the name Jayla Amora, grabbing the teenager by her hood, pulling her back inside the salon, and forcing her to sit down. She can be heard demanding payment, saying, “Sit right here until somebody sends it.” Later in the video, Cunningham is seen cutting the weave she had installed from the teenager’s hair.
The hairstylist claimed the service, including the weave, cost $150 and insisted that if she had not intervened, the client would have left without paying. The teenager’s mother stated that her daughter had mistakenly sent the payment to the wrong account and was attempting to resolve the issue.

Cunningham defended her actions, explaining that she was determined to either receive payment or remove the installed weave. “If I didn’t do that, she would have been gone, and I would have never been paid,” she said.
Following the incident, Cunningham has received threats and has relocated her salon. She maintains that a witness can corroborate her claims. Meanwhile, the client’s family has secured legal representation. Attorney De’Aja Thompson described the incident as “horrendous,” emphasizing that a minor was subjected to physical and psychological harm over what appeared to be a mistake.
Cunningham is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary inquiry on April 18.
