Massive tree falls across a busy road in Malaysian capital, killing one man, damaging cars

A massive tree fell across one of Kuala Lumpur's busiest roads on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a man, injuries to two others, disruption of monorail services, and damage to more than a dozen cars, according to officials.

Videos and photos circulating on social media depicted the uprooted tree sprawled across Jalan Sultan Ismail Road amidst heavy traffic, situated approximately a kilometer (0.62 miles) from the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.

Authorities reported that the body of a 47-year-old man was recovered from the scene, and 17 cars were impacted by the incident. A 26-year-old Malaysian ride-share driver and a 72-year-old Swedish woman believed to be his passenger, sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment, as confirmed by a police official during a media briefing.

Some of the tree's branches fell onto an elevated monorail track adjacent to the road, as depicted in the photos.

The disruption also affected monorail services, causing delays, as mentioned in a notice issued by the train's operator.
