Meghan Markle spends Mother’s Day in Nigeria celebrating Prince Harry’s charity work
Meghan Markle honored Prince Harry’s charitable efforts this Mother’s Day.
The Duchess of Sussex, 42, joined her Duke in Nigeria to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Invictus Games.
The couple's visit to the South African country aimed to support the multisport Paralympic-style games for wounded or injured servicemen and veterans founded by Harry, 39.
While their children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 2, were not mentioned in reports about the Nigeria trip, it's presumed they stayed in the US, where Meghan and Harry have been based since stepping back from royal duties in 2020. Sunday marked Mother’s Day in the US, while the UK celebrated on March 10.
On their final day in Nigeria, Meghan and Harry visited the Ilupeju Senior Grammar School, where they attended a Giants of Africa basketball exhibition in collaboration with their Archewell Foundation, as reported by PEOPLE.
Meghan also received public Mother’s Day wishes from ex-NBA star Masai Ujiri, the vice-chairman and president of the Giants of Africa.
During a panel discussion on women in leadership, Meghan spoke about navigating the balance between motherhood and career evolution. She shared, “Balance will always change for you. That balance, what seems balanced 10 years ago, is going to shift. Being a mom has always been a dream of mine. I’m so fortunate to have two beautiful, healthy, very chatty, sweet children.”
Expressing her love for motherhood, Meghan reflected on a recent moment with her daughter, Lili, while interacting with students at the Lightway Academy in Nigeria. “Our daughter, Lili—she’s about to turn three. A few weeks ago, she looked at me and said, ‘Mama, I see me in you.’ Oh, now she was talking really, literally,” Meghan shared.
Despite their busy schedules, Meghan and Harry reunited in London’s Heathrow Airport before heading to Nigeria, while Harry spent time in the UK for Invictus Games anniversary events. During this time, he did not see any relatives, including his father, King Charles III, or his brother, Prince William.
Meanwhile, Meghan cared for their children in California before joining Harry for their charitable activities in Nigeria.
