Michigan Mom Fatally Struck While Heroically Saving Daughter at Drag Racing Event
A Michigan mother, Kadie Price, 33, tragically lost her life while heroically saving her two-year-old daughter during a drag racing event at Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes on Sunday.
Price was attending the event with her family when a 1980 Jeep CJ lost control and veered off the racing strip, crashing into another stationary vehicle, according to police. The impact caused the stationary vehicle to strike Price just moments after she pushed her daughter to safety.
The incident occurred around midday at the park in western Oceana County, approximately 270 miles northwest of Detroit. Despite the quick response from several bystanders and Silver Lake State Park rangers, Price succumbed to her injuries shortly after being struck.
Thanks to Price’s quick-thinking actions, her daughter avoided “serious injury or worse,” police said.
"Please keep the Price family in your prayers," the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. The driver of the Jeep, identified as a 64-year-old Michigan man, has not been named as the investigation is ongoing.
Eyewitnesses described the horrific scene. "I’ve been coming out here a long time," Bryce Straubel told WOOD. "That was probably one of the most brutal accidents I’ve ever seen. It breaks me. People come out here to have a good time, and this mother just lost her life saving her daughter. It’s just rough to hear. It really is."
Silver Lake State Park is a 3,000-acre park along the shorelines of Lake Michigan, featuring approximately 2,000 acres of sand dunes.
