A 44-year-old Michigan mother, Vinnice Daianie Leon, was arrested earlier this month for her involvement in the death of her husband, Robert B. Leon, who died after being thrown from the hood of her vehicle outside a Wendy’s restaurant.

Vinnice Leon was arraigned on one count of a moving violation resulting in death in connection with the March 2024 incident, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime. She appeared in Holland County District Court on Monday and was released after posting a $1,000 bond.

The tragic event occurred on March 25 at approximately 12:35 p.m. at the Wendy’s on East 16th Street in Holland, Michigan. The couple, accompanied by their daughter in their 2009 Dodge Charger, began arguing in the parking lot. Robert Leon allegedly exited the vehicle, and when his wife attempted to drive away, he jumped onto the hood. He subsequently fell, striking his head and suffering a fatal brain bleed. He was pronounced dead at Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital.

In an interview with WXMI, Vinnice Leon expressed her disbelief over the incident, emphasizing that she never intended to harm her husband. She recounted that the argument started over a gaming console purchase, escalating to the point where Robert became aggressive, scaring their daughter.

“He got really upset... He scared my daughter. She screamed at the top of her lungs because he was yelling at me. He slapped me and then punched my arm,” Vinnice Leon explained. “I told him, ‘You know, I can cancel the order; I can order the PS5.’”

Vinnice claimed her husband’s aggression prompted her to try to leave the parking lot for safety. As she drove away, Robert allegedly jumped onto the hood of the car and was holding onto the windshield wipers when he fell and suffered the fatal injury.

The moving violation charge against Vinnice Leon is a misdemeanor, carrying a potential maximum sentence of one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.
