Milwaukee man charged with dismembering Black woman after their date

Maxwell Anderson appears in court as he is charged with killing and dismembering 19-year-old Sade Robinson on Friday April 12, 2024 at the Criminal Justice Facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Milwaukee authorities have taken a suspect into custody and filed charges two weeks after college student Sade Robinson disappeared following a date. Maxwell Anderson, who is white, faces charges of first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, and arson as of Friday (April 12).

Robinson, who is Black, was reported missing on April 2 after failing to show up for her shift at Pizza Shuttle. Concern arose among her colleagues as she had enthusiastically mentioned meeting Anderson the night before her disappearance. "We sensed something was wrong; we had been trying to reach her all day," said her manager, Justin Romano.

The partial remains of Sade Carleena Robinson, 19, were discovered spread across Milwaukee in early April

On the same day, parts of Robinson's body, including a severed leg, were discovered on Warnimont Park's beach. Her severely burned 2020 Honda Civic, containing her phone and clothing, was found near 29th and Galena streets. Investigators also found what appeared to be human flesh and her foot in the area on April 6. Preliminary DNA tests confirmed her identity.

An investigative timeline indicated that Anderson and Robinson met at Twisted Fisherman on Canal Street before moving to a nearby bar and then Anderson's residence on 39th Street and Oklahoma Avenue.

Surveillance footage from a neighboring property showed activity around 12:45 a.m. at his home. Phone records tracked Robinson's cell phone pinging towers across the city before ending up at the park. Authorities discovered bloodied bed sheets and walls leading to Anderson's basement, along with gasoline containers and a described "sex dungeon."

The police complaint stated that "the defendant intentionally killed and then dismembered Robinson with the intent to conceal the homicide, and it occurred between the arrival at the defendant’s residence and his departure from the Warnimont Park area." Anderson was apprehended in connection with the case on April 4.

Sheena Scarbrough, mother of 19-year-old Sade Carleena Robinson, talks to the press after Maxwell Anderson is charged with killing and dismembering Robinson on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Milwaukee County Criminal Justice Facility in Milwaukee.

In response, Robinson's family initiated a GoFundMe campaign for the Milwaukee Area Technical College student, who was close to completing her associate degree in criminal justice. "The pain of losing Sade has left a void in the hearts of her family, especially her grieving mother and little sister, along with other relatives, friends, and the entire community who loved and supported her. As we come together to honor Sade's memory, we aim to provide her with the dignified farewell she deserves," reads the fundraiser. The campaign has surpassed its $30,000 goal with ongoing contributions.

A memorial service is planned for May 10, while investigators continue their search for the remainder of Robinson's body.
