Miss Teen USA UmaSofia Srivastava resigns days after Miss USA Noelia Voigt steps down
UmaSofia Srivastava, the 2023 Miss Teen USA winner, shared a detailed statement on Wednesday, announcing her resignation due to her personal values no longer aligning with the organization's direction.
"After months of deliberation, I've decided to step down from the Miss Teen USA 2023 title. I'm grateful for the support from my family, state directors, sister queens, and fans since winning my state title," Srivastava wrote.
"Representing New Jersey as a first-generation Mexican-Indian American on a national level was fulfilling."
In response, Miss USA CEO and President Laylah Rose emphasized the organization's goal of celebrating and empowering women. "Our participants make a difference globally," Rose said, adding that her personal aim has been to inspire women to pursue new dreams while maintaining integrity.
Srivastava pledged to continue her philanthropic work with The Lotus Pedal Foundation and the Bridge of Books Foundation while completing her junior year of high school. She also hinted at new projects on her blog, That’s Fan Behavior.
Despite the unexpected end to her reign, Srivastava expressed excitement about future advocacy, college applications, and upcoming projects. She concluded, "I am fortunate to have had this experience, and I believe my life's story will be remarkable."
Former Miss USA Voigt, who resigned earlier in September 2023, praised Srivastava's decision. Voigt's resignation, which focused on prioritizing mental health, sparked online speculation due to an apparent hidden message in her statement, spelling out "I AM SILENCED" and "HIP" in the first letters of sentences. The intention behind this message remained unclear.
