Missing hairdresser found dead in cemetery by highway in Mexico
Mexican police have confirmed the discovery of the body of Reyna Henandez, a 54-year-old woman from Renton, Washington, who had been missing since February.
According to Renton Police Department, Henandez disappeared on February 26, with friends reporting her missing two days later when she failed to return home after running errands and not opening her hair salon.
Initial investigations suggested that Henandez was taken against her will, with evidence indicating that she was not in possession of her car at the time.
However, the case took a grim turn when on March 8, detectives were notified of an unidentified body found in a Mexicali cemetery along the Tijuana Highway. Following coordination with Mexican authorities, Henandez was identified over the weekend.
A 61-year-old Renton resident was arrested by Mexican law enforcement on unrelated charges, with authorities suspecting domestic violence as the motive behind Henandez's death. Henandez's vehicle was also recovered in Mexico.
"This is the worst possible outcome, and our hearts go out to Reyna's family and friends," said Investigations Commander Chandler Swain.
The investigation now focuses on determining the time, manner, and location of Henandez's death, with potential extradition of the suspect to the U.S. to face charges if the homicide is determined to have occurred within U.S. jurisdiction.
