A Ukrainian model who went missing after attending a party in Dubai was found critically injured and abandoned by the roadside, with severe injuries to her limbs and spine.

Maria Kovalchuk, who turned 20 this month, had been missing for eight days after informing friends that she was invited to a party at a hotel on March 9. She was reportedly set to attend the event with two men who presented themselves as modeling industry representatives.

Maria was rushed to hospital, and according to her mother underwent three surgeries to save her life, before later receiving a fourth procedure.

Before disappearing, Maria told her mother, Anna, that she would be staying with the representatives overnight. However, she did not show up for her scheduled flight to Thailand on March 11, prompting her mother and friends to contact authorities and initiate a search.

On March 19, ten days after her disappearance, Maria was discovered on the side of a road in Dubai with life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to the hospital, where she underwent multiple surgeries. She remains in critical condition and is currently unable to speak.

Her family and friends are hopeful she will recover and provide details about what happened. Her mother stated that Maria had no documents, phone, or personal belongings when she was found.

A friend, Russian model Angelina Doroshenkova, who had spent time with Maria in Dubai, was reportedly invited to the same party but left for Russia before the incident.

Maria, originally from Lviv, Ukraine, is known for her anti-war activism and had participated in events supporting jailed Russian sociologist Boris Kagarlitsky, who was recently sentenced to five years in prison on charges of "justifying terrorism."
