Mojisola Meranda Resigns as Lagos Assembly Speaker, Obasa Re-elected Speaker

Mojisola Meranda has resigned as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly just seven weeks after being elected into office.
The lawmaker, representing Apapa Constituency I, announced her resignation today, March 3, and was immediately re-elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
Lawmakers praised Meranda for her leadership style, which they said helped restore peace to the House, as well as for her humility and adherence to the rules and regulations of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meranda initially became Speaker following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa. However, Obasa, who represents Agege Constituency I, has now been re-elected as Speaker after her resignation.
His return to office came after a nomination by Noheem Adams, a former Majority Leader representing Eti-Osa Constituency I.
Following his impeachment, Obasa dismissed the action as a joke, insisting it did not follow due process.
