Mom made son, 3, say ‘goodbye to Daddy’ on camera before shooting him dead in murder-suicide a day before custody hearing
A Texas mother instructed her 3-year-old son to “say goodbye to Daddy” on camera moments before she shot the boy and then herself in a ditch — a day before a custody hearing with her ex-husband, police said.
Savannah Kriger, 32, and her son Kaiden were found dead with gunshot wounds to their heads at a San Antonio park on March 19, with authorities piecing together their final hours.
Leading up to the tragedy, Kriger shot at her wedding photos, damaged her ex-husband’s home, and sent threatening messages, warning, “You won’t have anything at all by the end of the day.”
The grim events unfolded when Kriger left work on March 18, headed to her ex’s home, damaged property, and then went to her own home where she damaged her wedding portraits.
“We believe that she fired two shots into her wedding portraits,” Sheriff Javier Salazar said.
Kriger then picked up her son from daycare and sent distressing messages to his father.
“You don’t have anything to go home to now. You really don’t,” she said in a FaceTime call. “You won’t have anything at all at the end of the day.”
In a final text, she told her ex, “Say goodbye to your son.”
A video recovered from her phone showed Kriger and her son in the park, where she told him to “say goodbye to Daddy” before kissing him.
Authorities found them 19 hours later after an Amber Alert was issued.
The medical examiner’s office ruled it a murder-suicide, revealing a custody battle involving the boy. Kriger had filed for divorce and a restraining order on March 7, with a custody hearing scheduled for March 19.
