More than 30 die after bus falls off bridge in Mali
Thirty-one lives were tragically lost when a bus overturned and fell from a bridge in Mali on Tuesday. The bus, traveling from the Malian town of Kenieba to neighboring Burkina Faso, lost control and veered off the bridge over the Bagoe river. Along with the fatalities, at least ten others sustained injuries, some of which are severe.
Local authorities attribute the accident to the driver's inability to maintain control of the vehicle. The incident occurred around 17:00 local time (17:00 GMT).
According to the transport ministry's statement, the victims include both Malians and individuals from other parts of West Africa. Mali frequently experiences road accidents due to the inadequate state of roads and vehicles, as well as issues like overloading and insufficient regulation of public transportation.
In a separate incident earlier this month, AFP news agency reported that 15 people lost their lives, and 46 were injured in a collision between a bus and a truck on its way to the capital, Bamako.
