Mum guilty of murdering son, three, who she scalded and caned in ‘sadistic cruelty’ (video)

A mother accused of murdering her three-year-old son has been found guilty and convicted.

Christina Robinson, 30, was charged with causing a fatal injury to her son Dwelaniyah by violently shaking him at her residence in Bracken Court, Ushaw Moor, Durham, in November 2022. Newcastle Crown Court heard harrowing details of her actions, including scalding and caning the child in acts of "sadistic cruelty."

During the trial, Robinson admitted to using a bamboo cane on her son but claimed it was in accordance with a Bible scripture advocating for the "correction" of children.

She identified as a member of the Black Hebrew Israelite religion and stated that she resorted to the cane because her son was misbehaving with his food.

The jury determined that Robinson caused a fatal brain injury to her son while she was the sole adult present in the house.

After the incident, she delayed calling emergency services for 20 minutes, during which she searched online for child resuscitation techniques and contacted her husband, who was away working for the RAF.

Despite appearing calm when paramedics arrived, her son could not be saved. A post-mortem examination revealed that the child had suffered multiple non-accidental injuries, indicating a pattern of deliberate abuse.

Prosecutor Richard Wright KC described the case as a "campaign of violence and cruelty" inflicted on the young boy by his mother.

Mr. Justice Garnham expressed gratitude to the jury for their diligence in the case and urged them to take a break from the stressful proceedings. Sentencing for Robinson is scheduled for May 24.
