Mystery as dismembered body found dumped in suitcase under Paris bridge before ‘victim’s carer’ hands himself into cops
A man has been arrested in connection with a gruesome discovery under the Austerlitz bridge in Paris—a dismembered body packed into a suitcase.
Firefighters came across the severed corpse while responding to a rubbish fire on Saturday night. Following this, a 34-year-old man voluntarily surrendered to the police early Sunday morning.
"He has been remanded into custody for murder," stated the Paris public prosecutor’s office, noting that extensive investigations are ongoing and that the suspect has yet to be questioned.
Reportedly, the man confessed to the crime, alleging a conflict with the victim, whom he cared for as a disabled individual.
The body, missing both upper and lower limbs, was found complete but in pieces, according to sources close to the investigation. The site where it was discovered is known to be frequented by homeless individuals.
This incident brings to mind past tragedies in the area, including the discovery of a dismembered female body in Buttes-Chaumont last year, resulting in a murder inquiry and the arrest of the victim's husband.
Additionally, a previous case involved the dismembered body of a 12-year-old girl, sparking national outrage and a political debate due to the perpetrator's mental health status and immigration issues.
