The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested Anthony Chidi at Mile 3 Market, Diobu, Port Harcourt, for producing counterfeit alcoholic beverages in highly unsanitary conditions.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, NAFDAC revealed that Chidi was caught inside a filthy shop, where he washed used bottles of various alcoholic brands and refilled them with unwholesome drinks for resale.
During the raid, officials discovered dirty empty bottles, ethanol, bottle caps, and packaging materials—all used in the illegal operation. Chidi confessed to running the illicit business for about a year, admitting that he sourced labels from Aba and purchased used bottles to package the fake drinks.
NAFDAC has since evacuated the shop and confiscated all items found on site for further investigation. The agency reiterated its commitment to cracking down on counterfeit alcohol production and protecting public health.
