The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested John Gambo, a student of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (FPN), for the murder of Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student of the same institution.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed in a statement on Friday, February 7, 2025, that Gambo confessed to attacking the victim with an axe and a knife during a violent altercation.

“On February 6, 2025, at about 2:00 a.m., a report was lodged at Nasarawa Division by one Mercy Bassey, a resident behind ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road, Nasarawa, regarding a violent dispute between two individuals,” the statement read.

According to the police, the altercation involved one of Bassey’s tenants and his friend at their lodge.

Upon receiving the report, Commissioner of Police CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed immediately deployed a team of detectives to the scene.

“The detectives arrived to find Ibrahim Matthew lying in a pool of blood, having suffered fatal injuries. He was immediately rushed to General Hospital Nasarawa, where he was confirmed dead. His body was subsequently deposited in the morgue for a post-mortem examination,” the statement continued.

Following a swift investigation, police apprehended John Gambo, an ND2 student in the Banking and Finance Department of the same institution.

“The suspect confessed to brutally attacking the deceased with both an axe and a knife, leading to Ibrahim Matthew’s tragic death,” the police confirmed.

Both weapons were recovered from the suspect.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation and subsequent prosecution.
