‘New Masquerade’ actress, Ovularia dies at 81
Nigerian actress Elizabeth 'Ovularia' Evoeme, known for her role in the 80s TV sitcom 'The New Masquerade', has passed away at 81. She died on Sunday, surrounded by loved ones, as confirmed in a statement by filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi.
Ovularia's daughter, Justine Ngozi Evoeme, expressed the family's grief, describing her mother's death as "painful and shocking". The family remembered her as a "loveable person" who will be deeply missed by all.
The statement released by the family thanked fans, friends, and colleagues for their support and requested privacy during this time of mourning. The cause of Ovularia's death was not disclosed.
Ovularia was also falsely rumored to have passed away in 2019. She gained fame for her role in 'The New Masquerade', a popular TV show that aired on NTA from the mid-1970s to the mid-1990s. The sitcom, created and written by James Iroha, began as a radio program on the East Central State Broadcasting Corporation, Enugu.
