New Orleans Doctor Arrested for Alleged Role in Sister’s Ankle Monitor Removal

Dr. Kerry Sterling, a 49-year-old medical doctor from New Orleans, has been arrested and transferred to Jefferson Parish Jail after being accused of attempting to remove his sister’s court-ordered electronic ankle monitor. Sterling faces charges of accessory after the fact to manslaughter and tampering with monitoring equipment.
Sterling was taken into custody on March 14 while working at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah, Louisiana. Authorities reported that hospital employees initially attempted to prevent his arrest, but deputies were able to detain him and remove him from the premises.
The case revolves around Sterling’s sister, Kyana Traylor, 37, who had been released on a $650,000 bail under the condition that she wear an ankle monitor. Traylor is charged with manslaughter for allegedly allowing 32-year-old George Singleton, a mentally disabled man, to bleed to death after he severely cut himself. She also faces charges of obstruction of justice, insurance fraud, and cruelty to the infirm for allegedly mistreating Singleton’s 61-year-old mother.
According to authorities, Traylor sought to have her monitor removed by claiming she needed an MRI at University Medical Center. Bail bond agents and representatives from the monitoring company, ASAP, initially complied after a doctor vouched for her condition. However, suspicions arose when Traylor, who had arrived at the hospital in a wheelchair, was later seen walking, talking, and smoking cigarettes.
ASAP and Blair’s Bail Bonds agents continued to monitor the situation and tracked the device to the Ninth Ward the following morning after receiving a tamper alert. When an agent arrived, Sterling was allegedly found in the back seat of a vehicle attempting to cut off the monitor.
Traylor was immediately taken into custody, and Sterling fled the scene. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was apprehended days later at the Madison Parish hospital.
Sterling has indicated that he will hire a private attorney, and no bail had been set as of midday Friday. Meanwhile, Traylor remains in custody with her bail increased to $700,000.
